The Directorate of Punjab Instructions has announced the commencement of free MDCAT and ECAT preparation classes across 90 government colleges in Punjab. The program, spanning 10 weeks, aims to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in these entrance examinations.

In a letter addressed to the Secretary of the Higher Education Department, the details of the initiative were outlined, including budgetary allocations and logistical requirements. A budget of 4.5 Crores PK Rupees has been allocated for engaging 450 trainers over the course of 10 weeks, with each trainer receiving 1 lakh rupees.

To ensure the effectiveness of the program, the letter emphasizes the need for well-equipped classrooms with appropriate teaching aids such as whiteboards, projectors, and audiovisual equipment. These facilities will enable smooth and effective conduct of the preparatory classes, ultimately benefiting students preparing for the MDCAT and ECAT examinations.

1. BUDGETARY ALLOCATION FOR HOLDING PREPARATORY CLASSES: 

Number of Colleges Selected: 90 

Number of Subject Specialist Trainers per College 5 

Duration of Program. 10 weeks

Allocation per Trainer for 10 Week: I lac rupees 

Total Budget Calculation: 

Total Trainers for 90 Colleges = 90 Colleges • 5 Trainers/College =450 Trainers 

Total Allocation for Trainers for 10 Weeks = 450.100.000 rupees*10 weeks = 45.000,000 rupees 

Therefore,. the complete budget for holding preparatory classes for MDCAT and ECAT at government colleges for 90 colleges and engaging 450 trainers for 10 weeks is 4.5 Crores PK Rupees. These funds will be drawn from each College's Funds, including allocations from Lab/Library Security Funds, Fine Funds, and General funds

Following in the footsteps of Indonesia, which saw significant investments in processing plants after imposing a ban on unprocessed nickel exports in 2020, the Philippines aims to strengthen its capacity to process nickel. Environment Minister Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga emphasized the importance of positioning the country within the value chain rather than solely as a supply chain participant, particularly given nickel's crucial role in electric vehicle (EV) battery production.

Warning to Dog Owners: Disturbing Discovery Along the Appalachian Trail | Pennsylvania Game Commission

The Pennsylvania Game Commission has issued a warning to pet owners following a disturbing discovery made along the Appalachian Trail.

Over the weekend, a hiker stumbled upon dog treats laced with fish hooks on the North Trail Loop, leading to the George W. Outerbridge camping shelter in Washington Township.

“These items could prove fatal to any animal that ingests them, whether wild or domesticated,” cautioned the commission.

The George W. Outerbridge camping shelter, named after the second man to complete each section of the Appalachian Trail, consists of three walls and an open side. Maintained by the Allentown Hiking Club, founded in 1931, the club oversees more than 10 miles of the trail.

While no explanations have been offered for the presence of the hooks, the Allentown Hiking Club has yet to respond to inquiries from Men’s Journal.

Authorities are urging individuals with information about the baited treats to reach out to local law enforcement. If anyone discovers similar harmful items, they are encouraged to immediately contact 1-888-PGC-WILD or 1-888-PGC-HUNT.

Stretching nearly 2,200 miles across 14 states from Georgia to Maine, the Appalachian Trail welcomes dogs on most sections. However, dogs are prohibited in specific areas, such as Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee and North Carolina, the Trailside Museum and Wildlife Center in Bear Mountain State Park, New York, and Baxter State Park in Maine.

The National Park Service advises that dogs must be leashed on the forty percent of the trail administered by the agency. Nevertheless, it is recommended to keep dogs leashed to ensure safety during unexpected encounters.

What's more, with this hybrid system in place, homeowners can still sell surplus electricity to WAPDA, reducing their electricity bills while simultaneously avoiding the inconvenience of load shedding.

Another option for homeowners is the off-grid solar system, which allows them to power their homes independently of WAPDA. While this option provides complete autonomy from the national grid, it relies solely on battery storage for power supply. Adeel Ahmed advises that while going completely off-grid is feasible, it puts significant strain on the batteries, especially during periods of high energy consumption or cloudy weather.

Determining the size of the solar system needed for a typical home depends on its electricity requirements rather than its physical area. Adeel Ahmed recommends a minimum of a three-kilowatt solar system for small households, consisting of six solar panels, one inverter, and two batteries. Such a system can adequately meet the electricity needs of a small house.

The cost of installing a three-kilowatt hybrid or off-grid solar system typically ranges from five to eight lakh rupees, with the price varying based on the type of inverter used.
